The quartet of stars ι, ε Car, and δ and κ Velorum form the letter X in the sky, which is often confused with the stars of the Southern Cross. However, the False Cross is slightly larger, more symmetrical, and less bright. ε Car is a beautiful double star distinguishable in a smaller telescope. It consists of two components with brightness of 3mag and 6mag, separated by 5".
