The star is located 350 light-years away. To the north of it lies the radiant of the Andromedids meteor shower. One of the most beautiful double stars in the sky. The primary component is orange and has a brightness of 2.3 magnitude, while the companion is greenish-blue and has a brightness of 5.5 magnitude. It is also a close double star (0.5"), but it is not observable with smaller amateur telescopes (in a larger telescope, it appears as a slightly elongated, blurry star). Its orbital period is 61 years. The angular distance between the primary components of Alamak is 9.8 arc seconds, so we can resolve them even with a small telescope with a 5 cm objective diameter.
