Thuban (α Dra) Dra editor.cs 2022-01-21 17:00:00 skybber 2022-02-05 20:18:20.644712

once the brightest star in the constellation, now only 3.6 mag. 4,800 years ago, in the time of ancient Egypt, it marked the north celestial pole, just 10 arc minutes away. However, it has since shifted towards Polaris as a result of the precession of the Earth's axis, and Thuban is now over 25 degrees from it. Thuban belongs to spectral class AO and lies midway between Mizar and Kochab. It is 215 light years away and 135 times brighter than the Sun.
