an occulting variable star similar to Algol, with a period of 2.32 days and a brightness range of 4.92-5.9mag. The entire cycle of brightness changes is therefore observable with the naked eye. The change from maximum to minimum takes place in about 6 hours, which can be noticed even on a spring night. There is one faint secondary minimum between the main minima, but it is only one tenth of the stellar size, so it is hardly noticeable. The system is nearly 300 light years from Earth.
