Alamak (γ Adromedae) And 8mag 2022-01-21 17:00:00 skybber 2022-01-21 17:07:40.431775

the star is 350 light years away. North of it lies the radiant of the Andromeda meteor shower. One of the most beautiful binary stars in the sky. The main component is orange and reaches a brightness of 2.3mag, the companion is green-blue and reaches 5.5mag and is also a close binary (0.5"), but imperceptible with smaller amateur instruments (in a larger telescope it appears as a fuzzy, somewhat elongated star). Its orbital period is 61 years. The angular distance between the main components of the alamak is 9.8 arc seconds, so a small telescope with a 5 cm diameter lens is sufficient to resolve them.
